Graphics Cards
Should a section be added here to discuss the various video decoding capabilities of cards? Many new linux users I know are disappointed to discover that the HW decoding features of their cards (Eg PureVideo HD) do not function in linux. This can be particularly important when considering required CPU power for HD playback. This is also more relevant now that nVidia are bringing these HW decode capabilities to linux through VDPAU.

It would seem reasonable to recommend some video cards. The problem being that the section will become dated rapidly. If there is some way to provide general advice "check this wiki", "look for this feature" then that might be a better approach.
Selecting a CPU
The comment that dual core are currently faster than quad core might need some clarifying since it may not be obvious why this is the case. Is it still the case?

This is the first I've heard of it. Perhaps you could look into it for me?
Disk space
In both the Selecting a CPU and the Recording Quality sections, there's a mention of the fact that recording poor quality analogue signals will chew up disk. Is it appropriate to include an explanation for this on the page?

Done. I've added a sidebar.
Standard Definiton vs High Definition

It feels like we should define "SD" and "HD" somewhere in this chapter, although its not really a hardware thing, so perhaps it should be elsewhere.
